Why Jacksonville Builders Choose Steel
Metal buildings in Jacksonville usually start at home: a garage for the second car, or a carport over the boat trailer. Still deciding? Our carport vs garage comparison lays out the trade-offs. Duval County is also a freight town. Jacksonville is where I-10 begins, I-95 runs through the city, three railroads serve it, and JAXPORT is Florida’s largest container port, so warehouse and contractor-yard projects come through here as well.
If you are looking for a custom metal building company that serves Jacksonville, we are a dealer of pre-engineered steel building kits, and every quote is a custom configuration. American-made steel, drawings stamped by a licensed professional engineer and delivery to your site come from us. We have no branch office or yard in Jacksonville. Your crew or a local erector handles installation; if you want installation arranged, say so in your quote request.
Jacksonville and Duval County have shared one consolidated government since 1968, so most parcels in the county get their permit from the City of Jacksonville. Your drawings carry the design wind speed for your parcel under the Florida Building Code. Statewide rules are covered in our Florida codes and permits section.

Jacksonville Building Permits and Local Codes
Most of Duval County is the City of Jacksonville, and the city’s Building Inspection Division issues building permits from the Ed Ball Building at 214 N. Hogan Street and through its JaxEPICS online portal. Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Baldwin keep their own city governments, so for a parcel there, check with that city hall first.
Your quote package includes PE-stamped structural drawings with the design wind speed for your parcel, load calculations, specifications and an anchor bolt layout. For a residential shed of 150 square feet or more, the city also asks for drawings signed and sealed by a Florida licensed design professional, along with Product Approval information sheets; ask us about both at order. The site plan on a certified survey and the recorded Notice of Commencement are for you or your contractor to prepare.
A shed of that size goes through plan review before the permit is issued. A commercial building starts with zoning and gets added review for parking, landscaping and the St. Johns River Water Management District. In some neighborhoods, Historic Preservation reviews the permit too. Check your parcel on the FEMA Flood Map Service Center first.

What a Steel Building Costs in Jacksonville
Every Jacksonville quote is priced on size, finish and parcel loads. Here the price moves most with the footprint, the number of roll-up doors and how close the lot sits to the ocean or the river. For dollar ranges on the most common garage size, see our 30×40 metal building cost guide.
A carport over two cars or one boat is one of the smaller buildings we quote. A boat on its trailer or a camper needs taller legs, so look at our RV carports before you settle on a height. Garages usually run 24×30 to 30×40, a workshop with room for a truck and a bench 30×50, and a storage building for a small business 40×60.
Your PE drawings carry the design wind speed for your parcel. Near the beaches, the engineer also checks whether the lot falls in the wind-borne debris region, which brings extra requirements for windows and other glazed openings. A lot near the St. Johns River or one of its creeks can have its floor height set by the flood zone, so check it before you request the quote.
Garages and workshops usually sit on a concrete slab, sized by your local foundation contractor to match our anchor bolt layout. If your City of Jacksonville permit lists a slab inspection, schedule it before the pour.

From Quote to Installed Building
Send the width, length and height, the ZIP code of your Duval County parcel and what the building is for, say a two-car garage or a storage building for your business. We calculate the wind loads for that site, lay out the anchor bolts and return a line-item quote with the PE drawing package.
You or your contractor file the PE-stamped drawings with the City of Jacksonville Building Inspection Division. For a parcel in Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach or Baldwin, ask that city hall where to file. A commercial project clears zoning first. Plan reviewer questions on the engineering come straight to us.
Lead time and the delivery schedule are confirmed at order. The kit arrives pre-cut and pre-drilled, ready for your crew or a local erector. Truck access to the parcel is confirmed before the kit ships.
Jacksonville Steel Building Questions
Yes. We deliver to Jacksonville and across Duval County, including Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Baldwin, and to neighboring Nassau, St. Johns, Clay and Baker counties. Call with your parcel address.
For most of Duval County, the City of Jacksonville Building Inspection Division does. Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach and Baldwin have their own city governments, so check with that city hall. We supply the engineering package; you or your contractor file it.
Installation is done by your own crew or a local erector you hire; the kit, the PE-stamped drawings, the anchor bolt layout and delivery come from us. If you would rather have installation arranged, say so when you request your quote.
It depends on the size. In the City of Jacksonville, a residential shed of 150 square feet or more needs structural drawings signed and sealed by a Florida licensed design professional and goes through plan review. A smaller shed still needs a permit, though it often skips the inspection. Our metal sheds ship with PE-stamped drawings at any size.
Often yes, if the building meets the floodplain rules. Duval County gets coastal, inland and river flooding, worst during hurricanes and tropical storms. The city’s Development Services staff can tell you whether your parcel is in a mapped floodplain, and the flood-zone anchoring goes into your drawings.
