Building Description

The jump from 1,152 to 1,800 square feet represents more than additional growing area – it changes how production can be organized. Four independent growing zones fit within the 30-foot width: two 4-foot perimeter benches and two 5-foot center beds separated by a pair of 4-foot working aisles. Running the full 60-foot length, this layout yields over 720 square feet of active growing surface – sufficient for simultaneous production across multiple crop categories including leafy greens, herbs, fruiting vegetables, and cut flowers without zone conflicts.

At this scale, climate management becomes the primary operational variable. The 30×60 footprint requires a calculated approach to heating load, ventilation rate, and humidity control that smaller structures handle passively. Sidewall louver placement on opposing elevations, combined with ridge exhaust capacity sized to the floor area, maintains adequate air exchange rates across full crop canopy conditions – a critical factor in disease prevention for high-density production environments.

Water supply infrastructure, irrigation line routing, and drainage slope must be engineered into the foundation plan before construction rather than retrofitted afterward. The galvanized steel frame accommodates twin-wall or triple-wall polycarbonate cladding for northern climates requiring higher insulation values, and single-wall systems for southern production regions prioritizing ventilation over heat retention. Concrete perimeter footings are standard at this building scale.
